Red Hot Applesauce

I grew up eating this yummy snack on quite a regular basis.  My mom made it often and it's a perfect treat served either hot or cold.  I also love it because it's perfect to use up some apples that you maybe have had in your fridge for a while and maybe they've started going just a little bit soft....but not yucky bad yet.  The kids love it too because it's something a little different than the regular old applesauce.

Red Hot Applesauce
4 cups chopped apples
1/4 cup red hot candies

Peel and chop apples and place in slow cooker.
I have a small little 1 quart cooker and it fits perfectly!
Pour candies over the top of apples and place lid on top.
Cook on low for 4-5 hours, stirring half way.  The longer you cook this, the more mushy the apples will get.  If you like your applesauce to have chunks, don't cook it quite so long.
Also, you can adjust the candy amounts to what your kids will like.  My kids love cinnamon bears and Hot Tamales so, this amount seemed to work well for us.  You can add more or less to your liking.

Store in the refrigerator in a quart jar or well sealed container.
