Today I want to share a cute little craft we did for my little man's 1st grade class Christmas party. It was one of those projects that was fun for them to do, and didn't take much time for them to do (if you haven't noticed with your own kids, they don't have the most lengthy attention spans haha).
All you need for this project is:
* construction paper in 3 different colors - red for the hat, tan for his face, and something for the background....we used green.
* about 35 of the larger sized cotton balls
* a med-large sized red pom-pom for his cherry nose!
* a marker of your choice to color his eyes
* Elmer's glue (not a glue stick. you need the runny white glue)
* a sponge brush or something to wipe the glue onto the paper
You will also need a copy of the following pattern:
Now, I'm sorry.....I was trying and trying to get this to download as a PDF to make it easier for you to just click and print, but it was just not working so well for me. So, to get the pattern, just right click on the pic above and save it as a JPEG on your computer. Then open it as you were viewing it as a photo and you should have an option to print it from there. Print it at FULL PAGE scale!
Ok, once you have your pattern, cut it out on the outer solid lines and use it to trace onto the tan colored paper. After you have traced as many as you will need, cut along the dotted lines and use the top HAT portion to trace onto red paper.
Now, you can either cut them all out and have them ready for your little crafters to just glue on or let them cut them out themselves.
That's up to you!
Next, use your sponge brush to spread a very light layer of glue around over the entire back piece of the FACE. Glue it onto your "background" paper. Repeat the process, attaching the HAT.
Be very careful not to use too much glue or your paper will just wrinkle and shrivel and you will just have a big soggy wet paper mess! Although it's a little work on my end, I like to help the kids, or have an older child there helping.
After you have the papers all glued on like you'd like, spread another light layer over his beard area and lay some cotton balls on to whatever design you'd like. I also put some along the rim of the hat and for a small puff on the end. This is where you can just let your little one have fun and let their own creative side shine.
Now that you have the cotton balls arranged, dab a little glue on the tip of the red pom-pom to add his cherry nose.
You can also use a marker in any color of your choice to color in some eyes.
This would be a fun little something for you to help keep your little ones occupied during that looooonnnnnggg day known as Christmas Eve, during a holiday party, school party, or just a little project for your kids on a cold winter day!
*Please note, the Santa face pattern is not one I claim to be my own. My mother is a school teacher, and I used a die cut machine they have to get the template. Super cute, but I definitely can't claim it. :)
