Today I wanted to write this post about a little apron I made for my Mother-in-Law for a Christmas gift. Now, before you go clicking on to some other page and pass over this, realize that it's not just any special little apron.

A little less than 8 months ago, we lost a very dear and sweet woman to the dreaded C word, Cancer. She was one of the most caring, compassionate, heartfelt women I have ever met and had one of those personalities that you couldn't help but fall in love with.
Cancer is something we all know about and most likely know someone who has gone through it. Unfortunately it's becoming more and more prevalent and there are so many more of our loved ones suffering with it. I myself battled the awful disease when I was only 2 years old, and feel so incredibly blessed each day that I'm still here with my family. Others don't make it through their battle, and we only have their earthly possessions to remember them by.
When I started thinking about what to do for Christmas gifts this year, my mind kept turning to our sweet Aunt. And one day it hit me. Why not make something for my Mother-in-Law to remember her sister? As you all know, I love to sew, and I have this apron pattern I turn to often for quick little gifts.
Now to stray a little I have to fill you in and tell you that our Aunt was a nurse by profession and everyone knew her for her unconditional love for everyone she met. She was always there to help anyone in need and loved to provide care for those who needed it.
So, back to the gift thing. I approached her daughters at Thanksgiving and asked if there were any extra shirts they had left over of their mothers' that they would be willing to part with. After explaining what exactly it was that I was doing with them, they were more than happy to hand over a couple of "Scrubs" that their mother wore for work.
I was able to use the fabric from the Scrubs as the fabric for the apron and make this cute Apron.
Every piece of the Apron (other than the thread) is some piece of a Scrub top or pant that she used, even the biased tape.
I love this Apron because it's a fairly universal pattern. the neck strap and waist straps are adjustable and because they attach through a buttonhole, it's also reversible.
(The reverse of this apron was everything opposite. Brown where you see trees and trees where you see brown.....other than the straps.)
