Minky Strip Quilt

It was just one of those weekends around here....
This last week, we've all had some sort of sickness from ear infections to strep throat so by the time this weekend rolled around, we all felt kind of....well, blah!

We have a close family friend that is graduating from high school in a couple of months so my Mom and I wanted to do something special for her.  We absolutely love the minky cuddle fabric that is so "IN" right now and thought it would make a great gift!
The graduates' favorite colors are red and black so we settled on those and made a Minky Strip Quilt.  If you've never made one before, I will just say now that they look a lot more intimidating than they actually are!  They are so simple, just a bit time-consuming.  The finished dimensions of this one ended up being about 72x56 (or so) and it took me about 4 hours from start to finish.
I'll have to post a tutorial the next time I make one.  This time around I had a couple of little munchkins climbing everywhere and had little room left for snapping photos.
However, I did get a couple of the finished product.....
The back is a solid, textured, fluffy minky that I adore!!!
The front we did in simple red and black solids with some paisley texture in the red fabric and a leafy kind of texture in the black.  And, I promise my lines on the binding are straight...it must be the angle I took the picture that makes it look all wonky...  : /

My brother told me it looks like a ladybug....If I would have thought about it before I could have appliqued the graduates name on a strip or even put on some cute flowers or something, but at this point, it's done and looks cute!

Hopefully she will like it as well!!
