It's that time of year that some parents dread and some parents are extactic about;
BACK TO SCHOOL!
My Aunt made one of these Teacher Cakes and I thought it was just so cute. I had to run to the store to pick up the stuff to make one for my little guy's soon-to-be Kindergarten teacher.
I just thought I'd share with you how I made it in case you'd like to do one as well.
Right now, most all of these supplies are out and on sale for a fairly cheap price with the "Back To School" sales. You can even try the dollar store to see if you could get some better bargains that way.
To make this adorable Teacher Cake you will need:
1 cardboard cake round (I used the 10" size)
1 paper towel roll
6 notebooks
7- 24 count crayon boxes
7 glue sticks
11 glue bottles
an empty plastic icing container
16 more glue sticks
48 pencils
8 or more medium sized rubber-bands
ribbons and embelishements of your choice
Hot glue
Start with your cardboard cake round and put just enough glue to hold down the paper towl roll. Press paper towel roll onto glue and let cool for a few minutes. Next place a couple of rubberbands around the paper towl roll, in the middle. Carefully slip notebooks between the rubberbands and paper towel roll until all 6 notebooks are wrapped in a circle (as picture shows), spacing them evenly. Place 2 more rubberbands around notebooks half-way between the previous rubberbands and the bottom. Slip crayon boxes between the rubberbands and notebooks evenly spaced out and add a glue stick in between each crayon box. Place two more rubberbands around notebooks about half-way down, and slip the glue bottles between; letting them sit on top on the crayon boxes. Now, place a glue stick up to the icing container and make a mark at the top of the glue stick. With a pair of scissors, trim off the excess top of the container so the glue stick is the same height as the container. Place two rubberbands around icing container and slip the remaining 16 glue sticks in. Place a little hot glue on the bottom of the icing container and press onto top of paper towel roll. After it has cooled for a few minutes, place the pencils in the container and add ribbons and embleishments of your choice.
(You may not need two rubberbands with each layer but I just found it held each layer together better.)
Add a cute little tag and give to your favorite teacher!
This would be great for a beginning of the school year gift or at the end of the school year or even just for a teacher appreciation present.
Let me know if you have any questions!!! :)
Check out this post and other fun ones at this fun linky party!!
