Last month, we had a family reunion on my mother's side of the family. It was really fun because they held it on the anniversary of my Great-Grandparent's marriage. I had a great time getting together and seeing cousins I hadn't seen for many years, and others I didn't know I even had! They had set up a display table of the hadywork my Great Granmother and Great Grandfather had done through their lives and it was wonderfully amazing to see their talents. I quickly decided I got my knack for quilting from my Great Grandmother. She had so many beatiful dolls she had crocheted, dresses she had sewn, but my most favorite was definately a quilt my mother's Aunt had. She said my Great Grandmother called the pattern a "Bow Tie" and I was absoutely intrigued with it mostly because it has never been finished. It is just the top and the ENTIRE thing was hand pieced. My mother's Aunt told me she never had the heart to finish it because then you could not see that it was all hand-pieced.
I took many pictures in hopes that I could come home and possibly find the pattern and possibly replicate the design. A few days later, I came home from work with a package from my mother's Aunt. I opened it to find this very quilt and an old quilt pattern book that was my Great-Grandmothers. I could not belive it! Not only is it such a beautiful quilt, but the mere fact that my Great-Grandmother put so much time and effort into it makes me appreciate it all the more. There was a note with it saying that my aunt now wants me to have it seeing I am the only Grand-daughter taking up Grandmas passion and she wants me to finish it off. For Grandma....
I definately need to get some more practice under my belt before I do, but it is definately a most precious treasure for me to have!
