I have always wanted to take on the project of doing a pieced quilt. Both of my Grandmothers are great quilters and my Great-Grandmother always had stacks and stacks of quilt tops that she loved to work on!! So, I thought I would give it a shot!! I went to the store, not really knowing where to even start and found a great step-by-step book on multiple differnt patterns. I thought, "OK thats great, but now what?" Which should I try? What fabric do I use? I was starting to get a bit overwhealmed!! Well I started looking around and found some fabric that looked like something my Mother-In-Law would really enjoy....horses! and then I just went from there. Found a couple of other coordinating fabrics and decided to just give it a try. I decided on the Double Irish Chain pattern and bought what I would need. Well from there I took it all home and there it sat, staring at me every day. I was so nervous to even start cutting it. What if I made one wrong cut? I would have to go and buy all new fabric....ugh, and there it stayed for 3 months until one day I just told myself to get going on it!! Needless to say, it was a fairly easy task and I really enjoyed doing it! I loved the relaxation it gave me. Every night after the kids would go to bed I would pull it out and do a little more on it until pretty soon (about a week later) the top was done! My Grandma was kind enough to help me quilt it and then I took to the task of doing the binding. (A bit more tedious than the actual piecing if you ask me!) Luckily I finished it in time for Christmas and my Mother-In-Law loved it!
I feels so nice to accomplish something you want to try!
Now its on to the next one...just bought the fabric for it this morning! :)
