Scalloped Potatoes

Well, today is the first day of me trying out my new idea of "themed posts".  I'm really quite excited about this!!  So, here its....
Today's Make This Monday post is a recipe (surprise! You all know how much I love to cook and love food).  We have made this recipe for Scalloped Potatoes for a while now and it's so easy, I wanted to share it with all of you!
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again....and again....and again.
Our family LOVES potatoes!
My great grandma used to make these and it has to be one of the easiest ways to do scalloped potatoes that I have -ever- tried!  Yes, it's homemade so it takes a little more effort than dumping the dehydrated stuff into the pan with the water and powdered mix.  However, it is sooooo worth the work!  Give these a try. I can promise you will never eat the boxed ones again.

Scalloped Potatoes
4-5 cups thinly sliced potatoes
3T butter
3T flour
1 1/2 cups of milk
1tsp salt
1 dash cayenne pepper
1 cup grated cheese
1/2 cup grated cheese for top (optional, in my opinion)
paprika
In a small pan, melt butter, blend in flour. Let cook for a minute.
Add all of the cold milk, whisk.
Season with salt and pepper.
Cook on low until smooth and boiling.
Reduce heat and stir in cheese.
Place 1/2 of the potatoes in a greased pan.
You'll need a pan a little larger than a 9x13....I use a lasagna pan.
Pour 1/2 of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese
Sprinkle remaining cheese on top
Top with paprika.
Bake 1 - 1 1/2 hours at 350 F.

Serves 12-15 depending on your portion sizes.

MMMMMMMM!!!

  1. Simple, easy and very delicious! I love that this recipe doesn't call for "cream of" soups but is from scratch. Just made these and they are so tasty!!

  4. Toni, I'm sorry, I just updated the post. You could easily feed 10-12 with this. We make it for our large family get-togethers (about 12 people) and don't run out.
